A druzy is when tiny crystal minerals form on the surface of another stone. Quartz is one of the most common Druzy types. When ground water carrying dissolved silica is forced into a porous area of rock, rapid cooling occurs, causing the formation of tiny crystals on the surfaces or in cavities of the rock. The crystals often form on top of previously deposited minerals. This is called a Druzy. Regardless of which mineral forms the Druzy, the overall appearance usually resembles that of sugar! The tiny crystals are quite beautiful the way they glisten and catch the rays of light - glittering sugar!
